Weekly Running Meet-Ups – Adults and Kids

Running DublinThe benefits of running are well-known – running is the perfect, free sport to reduce stress and promote well-being and happiness.

The heart is a muscle, which can get stronger when trained. Other benefits include strong bones increased muscle tone and a strong posture.

When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, which makes you feel more positive and happy!

Running DublinFor children, running and running games are good to build basic components of flexibility, coordination, strength ability and speed. Games like soccer, rugby, gaelic or simply dancing have the same benefits, so there’s something for everyone. You’ll start to notice all of these extra benefits when they are having fun and talk about a sport in a positive way.

One thing to bear in mind if you begin to exercise is to be mindful not to transfer your own ambition about running to your child as they are too young to keep pace with you. Games appropriate to their age is plenty and as they mature, your enthusiasm for sport will inform and guide them.

There are several running meet-ups all over Dublin. A really nice one for the kids is the Albert College Junior Park Run. It’s a weekly run for kids between 4 and 14 years.

Also, every Saturday the adult Ballymun Park Run takes place in Poppintree Park.

Because of the different capability of every member, it’s not really a family sport like hiking or cycling. But it’s a sport with a lot of fun, where you see results, getting faster and stronger every week.
So lace up your running shoes and get ready, set, go!
